This is the last of five coins on Malta’s constitutional milestones: the country was declared a republic on 13 December 1974 after constitutional changes agreed by a great majority in Parliament. The design reproduces the marble tablet on the façade of the Presidential Palace in Valletta marking the change from monarchy to republic, with MALTA — Republic 1974 in a semicircle at top right and the year 2015 at the bottom.
Commemorative 2 euro coins share the properties and the common side of normal 2 euro coins and are legal tender throughout the euro area. Bimetallic, 25.75 mm, 8.5 g; the outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European Union. According to the ECB: mintage 400,000, issued in September 2015.
For a euro collection it is one of the national commemorative coins of Malta.
